Standard Life Supports Say Yes Campaign
STANDARD LIFE INVESTS ITS SIGNATURE TO ‘SAY YES’ CAMPAIGN
Standard Life today added its support for GB teams at the 2012 Olympic Games when David Nish added his signature to British Basketball’s giant jersey.
Standard Life sponsors the GB Men’s and Women’s teams who have yet to cement their host nation spot at next year’s London Olympics. Basketball’s international federation, FIBA, will be making the decision on whether or not the Standard Life GB teams can take to the court in Stratford’s Olympic Park on Sunday 13 March 2011.
British Basketball’s ‘Say Yes’ campaign incorporates a giant basketball jersey which has been touring the UK raising awareness of the impending decision and gathering signatures of support from people across the country who want to see GB teams in 2012. The jersey has travelled to Newcastle, Manchester and London’s O2 arena and now David Nish has added his name to the thousands already on the eight metre tall jersey.
David Nish, Chief Executive of Standard Life commented on the campaign: "This has been a great initiative to raise awareness and support for the GB teams. Their performance level has improved greatly over the last few years. We, along with all their other supporters, hope their talent and hard work is recognised and earns them that all important place at the 2012 Olympics."
Historically the Olympic host nation has received automatic qualification for their teams to enter their Olympic Games. However, these regulations changed at the Sydney Olympics in 2000 resulting in the ultimate decision resting with the international federation, in this case, FIBA. The British Olympic Association (BOA) added their signature of support for the Standard Life GB team last week so now Great Britain is just awaiting FIBA’s decision which is due to take place on 13 March 2011.
